Café Juanita and Lark host upcoming Local Chefs for Local Farms events
PCC Farmland Trust celebrates seasonal food during its “Local Chefs for Local Farms” series. The next scheduled events are on Sunday, September 26, with Chef Holly Smith at Café Juanita and Monday, December 13th, with Chef John Sundstrom of Lark. These quarterly events are held at the cusp of each season around the Solstice and Equinox. Cost is $125 per person, and all proceeds are restricted to the Trust’s Future Farm Fund to purchase organic agricultural conservation easements. Maria Hines of Tilth Restaurant – a PCC Farmland Trust Board member –is coordinating the events to raise funds and awareness about preserving local organic farmland.
“Local Chefs for Local Farms” seeks to deepen the connection between consumers and the source of their food and teach the benefits and challenges – social, economic and physical – of eating and growing local, organic food. Along with fine cuisine prepared by local chefs, guests participate in a panel discussion with the chef, a local farmer and Trust staff.
A peek at the Café Juanita menu features heirloom tomato pappa pomodoro with smoked sablefish and toasted horseradish; braised pork cheeks with artisan polenta stuffed squash blossoms, corn and chanterelles; and nectarine crostata with sicilian pistachio gelato and nectarine coulis; along with other seasonal foods. Guests will have the opportunity to talk with Full Circle Farm’s Andrew Stout, Trust Executive Director Rebecca Sadinsky and Chef Holly Smith, of course!
“Local Chefs for Local Farms” seeks to capture the attention of a wider audience as we grapple with the realities of our industrial food system along with the long-term ability of our nation to feed itself. The link for the September invite can be found here.
