Delta Farm

"You have to be able to offer a future to the next generation. And you can't do that without land." – Nash Huber

Farm Name:  Delta Farm
Location:  Sequim, WA; Clallam County
Date Protected:  2000
Acres:  97

Current Farmer:  74 of the 97 acres of the Delta Farm are leased to Nash Huber, and operated as Nash’s Organic Produce.  Nash Huber and his wife Patty McManus are steadfast supporters of farmland preservation, in in 2008 Huber was nationally recognized as American Farmland Trust’s Steward of the Land.  Nash was also one of the first organic farmers in Washington State.

Project Background: Delta Farm was the first farm to be saved by our PCC Farmland Trust pioneering donors.  In 1999, Nash Huber approached PCC Natural Markets with the news that the 97 acre farm adjacent to his own was in immediate danger of being sold and developed into small housing parcels.  PCC Natural Markets rose to Nash’s challenge to help, and PCC Farmland Farmland Trust, a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was born. Because of Sequim’s unique climate and outstanding soils, farmland in the Dungeness Valley is literally among the most valuable in the world. 23 acres of the Delta Farm are set aside for wildlife habitat, which is owned and managed by the WA Department of Fish & Wildlife. The remaining 74 acres also provides migratory waterfowl habitat. Delta Farm is certified “Salmon Safe”.

Property Description:   The Delta Farm is located in the fertile Dungeness Delta. The land drains into the Lower Dungeness River, home to six salmon species, and hosts the source of Meadowbrook Creek.

Farm Products:  Nash’s Organic Produce grows a wide variety of vegetables, root crops, grains and more.  But Nash’s most beloved crop may be his famous “Nash’s Best Carrots”, some of the tastiest carrots in the world-due to the high mineral content of the soil and the unique microclimate of Dungeness.

CSA Program info:  Nash and his team are able to produce food year-round, due to their unique microclimate.   Nash’s offers both Summer and Winter CSA Programs–you can sign up for either on their website, below.
